Pisco receives recognition from UNESCO
Peru's national drink, pisco, has received new recognition!
UNESCO has certified the documents that prove the origin of Peruvian pisco. The manuscripts have been declared part of the nation's cultural heritage, as they document the way pisco was produced in the 16th and 17th centuries. The maps belong to the private collection of the renowned researcher and pisco taster Johnny Schuler, which consists of 200 catographic pieces.
The document "The origins of pisco, 16th and 17th century manuscripts" will be officially included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register for Latin America and the Caribbean in May. This international recognition reaffirms the Peruvian origin of pisco and highlights the country's commitment to preserving this traditional beverage.
The Memory of the World Program was created by UNESCO in 1992 to promote the preservation of and access to the documentary heritage of humanity, including its digitization. The program is implemented through a system of committees and support mechanisms operating at the international, regional and national levels.
