Peru stands out in Global Bird Watching competition

This month was the 2024 edition of the Global Big Day, the biggest bird-watching event ever, organized by eBird and CornellLab with 203 countries participating.

A total of 7,725 bird species were recorded, with Peru coming second with 1,428 species over the 24-hour event. At the national level, Cusco came in first with 653 species, Madre de Dios was second with 574, and Loreto was third with 561.

Peru is home to over 1,800 species of birds, representing nearly 20% of the world's avian diversity.
