Choquequirao featured in NY Times magazine ‘Places to Go in 2024’

The NY Times Magazine published this month the list of "Places to Go in 2024" and Peru's Choquequirao was featured as an archaeological wonder.

The fortress of Choquequirao, located in the Vilcabamba Valley - Cusco, at 3033 masl on top of a mountain, was one of the last places where the Incas found refuge.

The grandeur of the Inca architecture, with terraces, plazas, and great walls, has even led to the term "the other Machu Picchu", with the big difference that the Inca citadel is seven times bigger and has only about 10,000 visitors per year since the only way to reach the site is to walk for three to four days.

The adventure is well worth the effort, as the path is surrounded by diverse flora and fauna, and mesmerizing waterfalls that make up for the hike.

A cable car project is expected soon, as the government has announced an investment to improve trails in the area to boost tourism. In the meantime, you can explore the Choquequirao Trek with QN!
